Monkey Escape - Prose

Monkey Escape

i see the man on November TV
he says he’s the One
to fucking lead me

but I feel as if I’m trapped in a zoo
A sane man led
by a primate crew

but now…

all the monkeys have left the asylum
find us some guns and let's go pile 'em
no time to trial 'em, bury or file 'em

cuz if they be the problem, we’re the solution
gotta do our best to stomp this pollution
cuz if we don't do it, there's no absolution

the owls in the trees, manatees in the Keys, the whales in the seas, the deer in the Steens
the very seasons beg us to stop the treason –
there's no better reason to remove this damned lesion

we be the dog, they be the fleas-on
our hearts are a-seizin’ while the mountains still breeze-on-
it’s our own mother earth that we now put our knees on

we gotta…
shake 'em off or they suck us dry
watch for the signs, the signs in the sky
pray with the pipe, with our Momma we’ll cry
til we are left and the peace and the trees and the bees and the oil-free seas
and we fall on our knees
melt into the leaves
and smile
back at grandfather
finally knowing
that we are a part
of all that was
and is
and ever
will
be…
